A blast from the past – in 2017 I was asked to participate in a local event, which is part of the network #PulseofEurope. A pro-European citizen’s initiative, founded in Frankfurt, Germany. It aims at “encouraging citizens of the EU to speak out publicly in favour of a pan-European identity”.
„Europa bedeutet für mich Freiheit“, erklärte der Niederländer Vasco Bontje und sprach damit einen Kerngedanken der Bewegung aus, die mittlerweile in 34 europäischen Städten aktiv ist. Dabei gehört Bontje nicht zum harten Kern, der die Kundgebung organisiert hat. Der Niederländer lebt seit 2009 in Düsseldorf, hat aber auch schon in Dublin gearbeitet und ist begeistert von den Möglichkeiten, die Europa bietet. (source)
After Brexit and Trump’s victory, many Europeans are feeling defeated. Even though critics say the movement lacks concrete goals, I can identify with the values they stand for and Pulse of Europe probably has plenty to advocate for in the (near) future.
